IT Network Security Architecture & Deployment
New policies and procedures were developed along with auditing processes to monitor internal compliance and regulatory documentation. A centralized, integrated security control system was designed including firewall enhancements, log monitoring processes, internal systems separation, virus enforced orchestrators, an IDS and IPS system deployment and upgrades to out of date system applications. IT/Logical Security systems were deployed across a seven-state WAN.

IPL UA1200/CIP002-009 Standards Compliance Project
This project examined compliance with the UA1200 standards prior to a NERC Readiness Audit. Compliance to the standards was examined and a GAP Analysis of compliance efforts was constructed with timelines and persons responsible. Building upon the UA1200 efforts, a following compliance assessment of the newly implemented NERC CIP standards was completed, including a GAP Analysis and compliance matrix. These efforts contributed to the facility’s successful audit outcome.

This project included a comprehensive risk-based assessment of the Green Country Energy complex in accordance with the NERC CIP-002 standard requirements. This project examined the power plant, control systems, and switchyard to determine the criticality of each function, as well as the overall facility impact to the Bulk Electric Power System.

This project developed an Electronic Cyber Security Perimeter map demonstrating the system architecture and indicating cross connections with two other control centers. Additionally, the project involved a review and evaluation for implementation of network security enhancements with eleven IT and SCADA Engineers.

This project included the development and project management of an IT Cyber Security Working Group lasting more than three years. This team, also comprised of IT Network, IT Applications, IT Data Base and SCADA Engineers met monthly to resolve enterprise-wide cyber security issues, exchange information and to ensure regulatory compliance.

This project developed the UA1200 compliance effort which earned the company an “Example of Excellence” award. A long term association provided the company with an overview of its electronic security perimeter and interconnections with other facilities. Guidance was provided as to the best methodology to use to implement enhanced security initiatives for the SCADA network.
